For those of you that have been living under a rock, Hygge is a Danish concept that involves acknowledging a moment or feeling, where one experiences total contentment and comfortableness, usually in a cosy and relaxed environment. It doesn’t necessarily have to be adopted as a way of living, it’s more of just a ‘feeling’ when you’re utterly content and enjoying the way you live with those around you. I’ve put together a list of the ways that you could incorporate Hygge into your life, with a few spring additions.
Flowers can be a great way to bring nature indoors and create a lovely, relaxing atmosphere, not to mention that they smell amazing! Beautiful bouquets of daffodils or lillies can instantly lift your mood.
Even though it’s spring, you can always use candles to create a cosy atmosphere, or just to simply make the room smell heavenly. Scents like Clean Cotton by Yankee Candle make for great springtime candles as they instantly make a room smell fresh and delicious.
Getting outside for fresh air can make you feel so good about yourself; going for a walk with your favourite person and watching the sunset can be such a lovely way to spend an evening.
Painting your nails in bright, pretty colours can be a great way to bring Hygge into your life this spring. It can instantly lift your mood by looking and feeling pretty, and it’s a great way to pamper yourself.
By opening your curtains and windows, you can let lots of light in which makes your whole house so much brighter and better. Especially as it’s now lighter in the morning, it can be such a lovely way to wake up when the sun is shining.
Spring is a perfect time to declutter your home (that’s why they call it a ‘spring clean’!) and get rid of anything that you don’t want. Also, by doing this you can create more room to buy new things such as cute cushions and light throws.
