Father’s Day Gift Guide

Father's Day Gift Guide

With Father’s Day only a week away, I thought I’d throw together a little gift guide of things that you could buy for your old man. Instead of just the usual ‘World’s Best Dad’ mug, I wanted to add a few other things into this gift guide so you can really be your dad’s ‘best child’.

A great gift (albeit a slightly expensive one) would be to get your dad an experience day. Virgin does excellent ones, including driving, flying and sport experience days. It might be on the tad expensive side of the scale, but an experience like these will forever be in his memory.

One of the most classic gifts to give your dad on Father’s Day is a razor and aftershave gift set. This is one of the most common gifts that I get my dad and it never seems to disappoint. I always love gift sets from Gillette or Nivea.

Men’s aftershave always goes down well with any man, I particularly like the 1 Million by Paco Rabanne aftershave for my dad (that’s probably why he’s had a million bottles over the years…).

A wallet is another brilliant gift idea. You could print him one off, or you could buy him one. John Lewis and Debenhams have some lovely choices on offer at the moment.

If your dad is a coffee fanatic then you could always buy him a fancy af coffee machine. I’m no coffee expert but I know Nescafe are one of the best…

It’s no secret that most men love a fancy watch (it doesn’t even have to be fancy tbh). The ones from TAG Heuer have are always a massive hit, although they’re definitely on the pricey side. They are BEAUtiful though!

For Christmas I bought my dad ‘The Book Of Everyone‘ which turned out to be such an incredibly thoughtful gift and he really loved it. You can personalise it with things about your dad, including memorable dates, places and facts. It’s a really great present for the sentimental dad.

For the more technology-inclined dad, why not get him a Virtual Reality headset? I know for a fact that my grandad is obsessed with these so I’m sure my dad would love one too.

What do you usually get your dad for Father’s Day? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @imjustagirl_16 as I’m always looking for new ideas!

The Tell Me More Tag

The Tell Me More Tag

I’ve loved Lyd’s blog for a while now, and she recently created ‘The Tell Me More Tag‘ and I decided that I wanted to participate. Lyd’s blog is always full of wonderfully curated posts, so if you haven’t already, you should definitely check it out.

The ‘Tell Me More Tag’ has been created by Lyd with the intention of getting to know other bloggers and their reason for blogging, including their inspirations, goals and favourite things about blogging. So without further ado, here we go…

What’s the story behind your blog name?

The main reason for the name of my blog is because I wanted to create an online presence to share my experiences of what it’s like to be a girl. My intention of talking all things beauty, travel and lifestyle from the perspective of a woman was to create a little community of people who can also share their experiences with me. It also stems from one of my favourite movie quotes ever from Notting Hill: “I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her”.

What’s your real reason for blogging?

I’ve always loved writing, even from a very young age and it’s always been my ultimate dream to write my own book. I think the main reason for writing my blog is to document my life and the things that I’ve done so that I can look back in many years and remember all the stuff I’ve done.

Best thing about blogging?

The best thing about blogging is definitely the friendships that I’ve made online. It’s strange, but I feel as though the people I’ve met online could be friends forever. I just have so much in common with so many people and it’s so cool to be a part of such an awesome community.

Worst thing about blogging?

I think the worst thing might be the subconscious desire to compare yourself to everyone else. Whilst I truly think that it’s the most amazing community, I think it can sometimes be too easy to compare yourself to others and wonder whether you’re keeping up.

Proudest moment so far?

I’m honestly not sure what my proudest moment so far is, but I think that just having a sense of belonging in the blogging world has made me incredibly proud. When I got my first 1000 views on my blog, that was definitely an achievement that I was proud of; I can’t believe that so many people had read what I had to say.

What are your ultimate blogging goals? Don’t be shy!

I’d love to be able to make an impact on the world. If my writing could affect even just one person, then that would be absolutely amazing.

If you released a book, what genre would it be?

It would definitely be a rom-com. Or maybe even a kind of self-help book; I think it’d be pretty cool to turn my experiences into some kind of guide for other girls.

If you released products, what would they be? Homeware, beauty, or something unexpected?

I’d love to release a series of books, (kind of like a J.K Rowling…) but I think it’d be pretty cool to have my own homeware range too. Things like candles, bedding and photo albums would all be at the top of my list.

What would you name the products and why?

Ooh this is a tough one! I think I’d name them after my favourite movies and books, and the range would be Tiffany Blue and silver I think.

What has blogging taught you?

That I’m better at things than I originally thought. My confidence has also improved so much in the short time that I’ve been blogging, I think that talking to a lot of new people has really helped me.

Sum up your blog in three words!

Adventure- I’d like to think that I’m making a good effort of documenting all of my life’s adventures, including new experiences and holidays.

Happiness- I want my blog to be a place of happiness, for both myself and for other people.

Memories- I’d love to look back at my blog in many years time and see all of the amazing memories that I’ve made and documented on my blog.

Why It’s Okay To Not Know What You’re Doing With Your Life

What should I do with my life

I’m sure many of you reading this will be in the process of doing some kind of exams, whether it’s GCSEs, A Levels or uni exams, I’m sure the pressure is really building.

But today I wanted to write a post to let you know that you’re not alone, and that whatever stress you’re feeling now, it will be okay. I know I’m not in any position to preach about life, I mean, I’ve literally only just turned 19. However, this time last year I was in a similar position. I was just finishing up my A Levels and my plan was to go to uni in September.

But then I got my results, and I massively freaked out about what I wanted to do with my life. All my life, I thought uni was the only option for me, which seemed like the most obvious choice. It wasn’t for me.

I’d always planned to go to uni and study law but when I had to make the decision, I decided that I just couldn’t do it. My biggest fear was disappointing my parents, but I knew ultimately that they just wanted me to be happy, and if that meant me not going to uni then it was okay.

I’ve always had this unbelievable need to please people; I hate disappointing anyone or letting anyone down. But I soon realised that I wasn’t doing that at all by not going to uni. I think I would have let my parents down more if I simply wasn’t happy.

Now, I can safely say that I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I figured that digital marketing *might* just be the career for me, and I’m thoroughly enjoying pursuing this goal. I’ve got an amazing support network around me, and the most incredible family I could wish for. My boyfriend is the most awesome, supportive, loving person in the whole world and everyday he makes my life better and happier.

So I suppose the point of this post is to tell you that it’s 100% okay to not know what you’re doing with your life. I would have never in a million years guessed that my life would be this way (very tempted to sing that to the Friends’ theme tune…) but I’m SO glad that it turned out the way it did.

If you’re panicking about life and exams and uni at the moment, then really try not to. It’s one of the oldest cliches in the world, but I genuinely believe that everything happens for a reason. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.

16 Things To Do With The Kids In The Summer Holidays

Things To Do With The Kids

I spent this weekend babysitting my two younger brothers and one younger sister as my mum and dad were in Greece for a wedding; I definitely drew the short straw there…

So, as I was spending the whole weekend with the delightful little devils, I tried to do things with them that would be entertaining just so they weren’t stuck in the house all weekend. I thought I’d share some fun activities that you could do with your own kids or if you’re babysitting too. Some of these might be more suited to the summer holidays, but most of them you could do on a weekend too.

  1. One of the easiest things that you could do with the kids is to take them to the park, as long as the weather permits. You could pack up a picnic and head to the park for a few hours.
  2. Take them to the swimming baths. Doncaster Dome is not too far away from us and it’s the perfect place to spend a day out with the kids; you could take them swimming and/or ice skating to truly tire them out so that they go to bed early…
  3. It may be a slight gamble, but you could take them to a play area just beware that it’s probably going to be heaving with screaming children…
  4. Spend a day at the beach eating fish and chips and building sandcastles.
  5. If the weather is a bit crap, you could always do some indoor activities. Baking is always a good way to spend the day inside and it’s also something fun for the kids to do.
  6. You could invest in some colouring books and spend a few hours lazily colouring in.
  7. If you have the sort of kids that may enjoy it, then you could take them to a museum. I live in York so there are quite a few places to take the kids, including York Dungeon and York’s Chocolate Story.
  8. Enjoy a day out at a farm and let the kids feed all the animals.
  9. You could have a movie day at home where you just watch Disney films all day.
  10. Go and watch the latest kids’ film at the cinema.
  11. Get competitive and take them bowling and enjoy the arcades.
  12. Play board games all day.
  13. This one might not go down too well but you could have a ‘room tidying’ competition if you need a day of cleaning the house; this is a good way to get the kids involved.
  14. You could get creative and have a day of making collages, scrapbooks and magazines.
  15. Spend hours making things out of Lego or building blocks.
  16. Make a den and have an indoor picnic while watching the best kids’ programmes (including Horrid Henry and Peppa Pig…).

Blogs To Read: May Favourites

Throughout the month of May, there were many bloggers whose posts I had been introduced to. While the events of May weren’t always the best, I managed to find comfort and enjoyment in these girls’ posts; each one writes in a different way and I simply adore each and every one of them.

My first favourite of May comes from Sophie Cliff. Sophie’s blog is one of my more recent findings and I absolutely love it. The way that she writes is so beautiful and emphatic, and I literally can’t choose just one favourite post. Some of the ones that I absolutely loved in May were her ‘How to visit New York on a budget’ and some of her mental health posts including this one.

Gemma’s posts are always full of helpful advice, relating to everything from Instagram to Pinterest. Even though she hasn’t been blogging for the longest time, she seems to have a great in-depth knowledge of the blogging world and I absolutely love the way that she writes her posts. Gemma’s recent trip to LA has also given me serious wanderlust goals; you can find all of her beautiful pictures on her Instagram.

Chloe is fast becoming one of my favourite people on the internet. I can’t wait to meet her at the #BloggersBall later this month, and I’m sure (I hope!) we’ll get along so well. Her blog is all about a Northerner’s guide to living in London (hence her blog name) and her posts are so well written and it’s fascinating to learn about her life. I particularly enjoyed her post about the ‘Money Diaries’ as I found it so insightful.

The second Chloe of this list is the wonderful Simply Chlo. Although she hasn’t posted on her blog too frequently over the last month, I have thoroughly enjoyed chatting to her over on Twitter and seeing all of her beautiful Instagram posts. You can also see her most recent blog post here which explains why she’s been so busy recently! I deffo think we would get along (and not just because we’re both 19 and called Chloe…).

Caroline seems like the most lovely, down-to-earth person ever. Her witty tweets are always a joy to read and she documents all of her life experiences on her blog. I particularly loved her post dedicated to her friends and her post about her insecurities in May. Caroline is so inspirational and her personality really shines through with the posts that she writes.

I’ve followed Rhianna for a while now and I was so excited when she launched her new blog (and her newsletter which you should deffo subscribe to if you haven’t already!). Her post about her birthday weekend in Liverpool has made me really want to visit there as it looks so beautiful, and it’s not too far away from me! She also posts the loveliest Instagram pics which you should also be following if you’re not already!

I absolutely adored this post from Lauren as she talks so admiringly about her dad. It’s inspired me to write my own post about my dad for Father’s Day so look out for that soon! Lauren documents her life all about being a student and I love her guest posts in which she invites other student bloggers to talk about their own university experiences.

I loved Lois’ post about turning 21 and her plans for her future as she finishes uni this year so it was interesting to see what she’s got planned for the next part of her life. Her Instagram images are also so beautiful and she seems like such a lovely person.

Paula’s blog is absolutely visually stunning, it quite literally defines the word ‘#goals.’ Packed with stunning photography, useful tips and enjoyable content, it’s safe to say every post of hers is inspiring. My favourite post of Paula’s in May was her ‘226 Blog Post Ideas’ as it is one of the best lists of ideas I’ve come across on the internet.

I’ve only just recently discovered Terri’s blog but I’m already obsessed. Her post about her trip to Barcelona left with me serious wanderlust, and I’m certainly tempted to book flights there for mine and Matt’s summer holiday! I absolutely love the layout of Terri’s blog and all of her images are so visually pleasing.

The Future Of Design – 3D Printing

I'm Just A Girl Blog

Big Ben and Empire State Building 3D Printed

Today’s post is slightly different from my usual posts but I’m really excited to share it with you so I hope you don’t mind…

When the people at CGTrader got in touch with me and asked if I would like to participate in their ‘design for the future’ blogging contest, I was pretty excited to talk about the world of 3D printing…

If you follow me on Instagram then you may have seen some of the images that I posted of the things that Matt has printed off using his 3D printer.

I’ll be honest, when he first told me that he was purchasing one I literally didn’t see the point. But as soon as he printed the first thing off; I was obsessed. The boat featured below was the first thing that was printed off as it’s supposed to be a sort of ‘initiation’ into the world of 3D printing.

3D printing boat

Since then, Matt has printed numerous models off, including Big Ben, the Empire State Building and the Hungarian Parliament Building. We’re aiming to build a skyline featuring all of the famous landmarks of the places that we’ve been together. I’m still waiting for my trip to Paris so we can print the Eiffel Tower off…

You can find the 3D printer that Matt has here.

With regards to the future of 3D printing, do I think it will take off? Well, like I said before, I was pretty sceptical at first but after doing some research, (and hearing Matt talk about it so passionately) I’ve come to the conclusion that there may be a future for 3D printing after all.

There are so many endless possibilities of the things that you can print out, not just ‘pretty’ things like buildings and models but practical items too. Matt printed off the wallet below and it’s lasted him such a long time. The design is practical, yet stylish and with a quick spray of shiny black paint, it almost looks like he bought it straight from the shop.

3D printed wallet

One downside to 3D printing that I have discovered is that it can take a little while for things to actually be produced. For example, the Hungarian Parliament Building took eight hours to print off which can be considered to be quite an inconvenience. However, as 3D printing is currently considered more of a hobby than an actual practical activity, it doesn’t make too much difference if you’re printing items off within the confides of your bedroom or study. I think that once 3D printing officially takes off, as technology advances more, then it will be easier and quicker to produce items yourself.

3D printed dog

Matt printed off the dog above and then painted it with white paint to give it a more realistic look; I think it looks so amazing considering it was made at home!

There are many forums where you can find objects to print off such as Thingiverse and 3D Warehouse, but you can also make your own design for a more original spin on things. Personally, I think that 3D printing is an excellent hobby (albeit a potentially slightly expensive one depending on which 3D printer you choose to purchase) and I believe that one day, possibly in the not so distant future, that 3D printing will be something off a norm in many households.

3D printing designs

The ability to produce something so wonderfully creative and quirky in your own home is both equally exciting and practical. Need a last minute Father’s Day gift? Simply print off a wallet for your dad. Has your brother become obsessed with the fidget spinner trend? Just print him one off and put the ball bearings in yourself.

What do you think of 3D printing? Do you think that there’s a future for it? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @imjustagirl_16.

*This blog post is a part of Design Blogger Competition organised by CGTrader; it is not a sponsored post and all love of 3D printing is entirely my own. You can also purchase 3D printing designs on CGTrader.

My Favourite Beauty Products Ever

My favourite brands

There are a number of products in my collection that I literally couldn’t live without; they are the staples of my skincare and makeup routine and they’re all simply wonderful.

One of my all-time favourite products EVER is the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. If you saw my post about the Pixi cleanser then you’ll know that while I thought it was great, I still definitely prefer the Liz Earle offering. This is because it leaves my face feeling totally clean and fresh, and while it’s not my favourite smelling product ever, I definitely think that it’s done wonders for my skin.

My moisturiser of choice has always, and probably will always, be the No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream. I did a full post about the No7 range here but basically I’ve been using this product since my very early teens and I absolutely love it. I do often use a Benefit moisturiser on a nighttime if I have particularly problematic skin, but otherwise I always use my trusty No7 moisturiser.

Urban Decay Naked Palette

Now this is a slightly more random product but I believe that everyone should have a tin of Vaseline in their collection. I think if I had to choose only one product to wear forever, it would be Vaseline. It’s perfect for dry skin and lips and *apparently* it makes your eyelashes grow longer (does anyone remember this from Angus Thongs & Perfect Snogging?!).

My primer of choice is always the Benefit POREfessional, I sometimes alternate between this one and the Matte Rescue version but I always find this one works better. It completely smooths out my skin and leaves it feeling perfectly prepped for my foundation.

I’ve loved the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation on and off for a number of years now and even though I sometimes want a change, I nearly always find myself going back to this.

For me, the perfect combination to really make my eyes stand out involves the Urban Decay Naked Palette and the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. Both these products create a beautiful look, perfect for a subtle daytime look or a sultry nighttime smokey eye look.

One of my favourite lipsticks ever is the Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet Red lipstick. If you saw my post about Pillow Talk then you’ll already know how much I love CT, but this lipstick really is something else; it’s lasting power is just phenomenal and it’s the most beautiful, highly pigmented red offering in my collection.

My favourite perfume ever is the Ralph Lauren Eau de Toilette and it smells absolutely amazing. Every time I wear this, I get so many memories come flooding back as I’ve worn this for years. I’ve never been good at describing scents but this is described as “apple, Italian mandarin and magnolia”. Basically: it’s delicious.

What are your favourite products ever? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @imjustagirl_16.
